Festivities celebrating Queen Elizabeth’s 70 years on the throne will wrap up on Sunday with the Platinum Jubilee Pageant, which tells the story of her reign in four parts.
The pageant opened with a military spectacle, honouring the U.K. armed forces from across the Commonwealth, including Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Pakistan, Ghana and Belize among others. A hologram of the queen during her coronation in 1953 was also broadcast on the windows of the Gold State Coach, waving to the crowds as it went by.
The pageant then showcased British life and spirit since 1952 when she acceded to the throne following her father’s death.
According to the program for the event, the third act harnessed “creativity, ingenuity, humour and community spirit,” and will include the “very best” of Carnival, May Day, Mela, Fiesta and Mardi Gras to celebrate the Queen’s life experience.
The procession then ended at the Queen Victoria Memorial in front of Buckingham Palace. The monarch surprised attendees by walking out onto the balcony of the palace with members of her family to wave at the crowds.
