ICC prosecutor tells UN Security Council his office has “no agenda” | FULL

1 min read

International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor Karim Khan addressed the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Wednesday, telling representatives his office has “no agenda” in pursuing its investigation of alleged human rights abuses in Ukraine “other than to get to the truth.”

“And to the extent there is fake news, to the extent there is collusion or there are attempts to deceive the world, what better way to expose a lie than subject it to independent investigations and analysis,” he said.

The Security Council also heard from UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney and Ukraine’s prosecutor general Iryna Venediktova.

“Ukraine is today a slaughterhouse, right in the heart of Europe,” Clooney said, urging countries to focus on international justice for war crimes in Ukraine.
