The World Health Organization (WHO) is expected to hold a briefing Wednesday to discuss the ongoing situation in Ukraine, the COVID-19 pandemic and other health topics.
The briefing comes after the WHO released a report indicating the number of deaths from COVID-19 surged by more than 40 per cent last week, likely due to changes in how they were reported across the Americas and by newly adjusted figures from India.
About 10 million new infections and more than 45,000 deaths were reported worldwide over the past week, following a 23 per cent drop in fatalities the week before.
WHO has repeatedly said that case counts were likely a vast underestimate of the coronavirus’ prevalence.
