Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson told the Senate Judiciary Committee Monday that, if confirmed, she will adhere to the U.S. Constitution and the law as a member of the nation’s highest court.

“I evaluate the facts, and I interpret and apply the law to the facts of the case before me, without fear or favor, consistent with my judicial oath,” the current appeals court judge told senators.

Jackson, who would be the first Black woman on the Supreme Court, also discussed her family, her faith, and her judicial experience in a statement that capped the first day of confirmation hearings.
