On International Women’s Day, a rally was held in front of the Russian Embassy in Berlin, protesting Russian aggression in Ukraine.
Several hundred people, mostly women, showed their solidarity and sympathy towards Ukraine with placards in its national colours blue and yellow.
Among the speeches discussing women’s rights was one by Germany’s Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture Cem Oezdemir, who also addressed the current situation in Ukraine.
Plus, in Paris, France, several thousands turned out on International Women’s Day for a march to demand the end of violence against women and social inequalities.
French President Emmanuel Macron has pledged to make this fight for women’s rights a priority for his term. But feminist organizations accuse him and hid government of largely ignoring issues of gender-based violence. Feminist collective #NousToutes estimates 665 women were killed in France by their partners or former partner throughout Macron’s term.
