Missile strikes Kyiv, explosions heard in Ukrainian cities amid Russian invasion

1 min read

An unidentified missile struck Kyiv on Thursday, a few hours after Russian troops began an invasion of Ukraine by land, air, and sea.

Missiles rained down on Ukrainian cities and explosions could be heard before dawn in Kyiv. Gunfire rattled, sirens blared across the city and the highway out became choked with traffic as residents tried to flee the country.

Ukraine said some of its military command centres have been hit by Russian missile strikes, as well.

As Russia launched an all-out invasion of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called on all citizens who were ready to defend the country to come forward, saying Kyiv would issue weapons to everyone who wants them.
