Russia keeps troops in Belarus, deepening concerns of Ukraine invasion

Canada’s foreign minister is cancelling plans to travel to Germany for a security summit amid rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine.

Belarus now says Russian forces will remain stationed in its country indefinitely.

Russian military exercises brought around 30,000 Russian troops to Belarus, which borders Ukraine to the north. Russia has at least 150,000 troops on Ukraine’s border.

The move is deepening concerns that Russia is planning to attack Ukraine and forcing yet another round of high level diplomacy.
